A man who died after his car plunged into a river has been identified by police.
He was Russell Long, aged 37, from Wigton. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say his blue Audi A4 went off the B5307 road as it was travelling between Kirkbride and Moorhouse.
It is believed the car collided with a bridge. It was found overturned in the River Wampool.
Fire and ambulance crews also attended the scene at about 10am today.
No other vehicles were involved.
A stretch of the road was closed for some time while accident investigators examined the scene.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw the car on the road between 10pm yesterday and 10am today to call them on 101.
