A man appeared in court in Carlisle today charged with 11 sex offences against a 13-year-old girl, including three counts of rape.

Tony McDougall, 24, of Moor Road, Longtown, is charged with three counts of raping the girl, and eight of intentionally touching her in a sexual way.

The incidents are alleged to have happened on various dates or over various time periods between January 1, 2005, and April 18, 2005

At today's brief preliminary hearing before Judge Barbara Forrester, he spoke only to confirm his name.

He will not be asked to enter any pleas until he next appears in court on May 13.

In the meantime he was remanded on bail.

He is expected to go on trial on July 29.
