Man in court accused of attempted robbery at Carlisle bookies

A 50-year-old man had appeared before magistrates accused of an attempted robbery at a bookies in Carlisle city centre.

Jack Robert Gibson, 51, of Garfield Street, Denton Holme, did not formally enter any plea. His case was committed to Carlisle Crown Court and will be heard there by a judge on February 6.

The defendant is accused of a robbery at Ladbrokes bookmakers on December 11 and also of possessing a kitchen knife in a public place. He was granted bail.
