A man who accepted stolen goods has been given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

Scott Croxford, 24, of Cant Crescent, Upperby, Carlisle, admitted having 11 power tools – valued at £2,000 – in his kitchen when police called at his home on April 19. He had hoped to sell them on to make a profit.

Carlisle Crown Court was told the items had been stolen from a garage on St John’s Close in Carlisle where a builder was working.

Croxford had not stolen the items but had accepted them from two men who called at his home.

He had bought a generator from them the previous day.

Croxford admitted handling stolen goods and pleaded guilty in court at the first opportunity.

The court was told that Croxford “regrets” his actions and is “deeply ashamed” of his behaviour.

He was offending to supplement his low income and to pay off debts.

Recorder John Gibson also ordered Croxford to do 250 hours of unpaid work and he imposed a four-month curfew to run from 6pm to 5am each day.
