Man dies in hospital after road crash

A pensioner has died in hospital following a road crash last week.

Alexander McMorran, 75, of Gillies Court, Ecclefechan, died overnight, say police.

The collision occurred at Loanwath Road in Gretna, near the junction with Africanda Road at around 2.10pm last Thursday (May 15).

It involved a blue Ford Ka car driven by the man and a white Ford Transit driven by a 54-year-old man from outside Dumfries and Galloway.

Immediately after the crash, a Police Scotland spokesman said the pensioner had been taken to the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with "life-threatening" injuries.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

The Procurator Fiscal has been informed.
