Man denies manslaughter charges at Carlisle court

A man has denied two charges of manslaughter by gross negligence in connection with the death of a woman and her child after they were found seriously ill on a boat.

Matthew Stuart Eteson, of Hale, Cheshire, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The charges relate to the death of his partner Kelly Webster, 36, and her 10-year-old daughter Lauren Thornton on Windermere in April 2013.

It is alleged that Eteson had a duty of care to both females and had fitted a generator to the vessel’s motor, causing carbon monoxide poisoning.

Eteson, 41, who spoke only to confirm his name and enter his pleas, will stand trial before the court in November.
