Man critical: two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in west Cumbria earlier today.

A 46-year-old local man was taken to hospital in a critical condition following an alleged assault.

The incident happened in Central Avenue, Egremont, at 1.35pm.

Two men, aged 57 and 17, both from the town, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police stress that despite reports on social media, there were no firearms involved, nor was there any danger to the general public.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Slattery said: "We are taking this incident very seriously and will be investigating thoroughly to establish exactly what happened.

"If anyone has any information about this incident please call Cumbria Police on 101 and ask for Detective Sergeant Vasey or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."

The injured man was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven, and was said to be in a critical condition.

None. There's little substance to what the Government is saying for the general passenger

It will get better - but only once old trains are taken off the tracks
