Man critical after Cumbrian campsite collapse

A man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after collapsing at a Lake District campsite.

The man, in his 50s, was staying at the Troutbeck Campsite, Windermere, when he took ill at 10.45am yesterday.

The Penrith-based Great North Air Ambulance was called to assist the North West Ambulance Service.

The air crew’s doctor and paramedic team assessed and anaesthetised the patient on scene before flying him to hospital in Preston.

The man, from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, suffered life-threatening injuries and was said to be in a critical but stable condition.

New law allows police to stop drivers and test for the influence of drugs. Will it work?

It must. Drug-driving, like drink-driving, is a killer

How can it? New law keeps giving police more to do, while police numbers are being cut. Madness!

There's no evidence of law preventing use of mobile phones in cars working, so why would it?
