Man charged after woman suffers serious stab wounds in Whitehaven

A man has been charged after a woman suffered stab wounds in Whitehaven.

Rhys Mason, 33, of Peter Street, Whitehaven, was to appear in West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Workington today charged with wounding with intent, assault by beating and affray.

The charges follow an alleged incident in a house in Calder Avenue in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said the woman did not suffer life threatening injuries.
