Man charged after ammunition found at Carlisle rail station

A man has been charged following an alert sparked after a bag of ammunition was found at Carlisle railway station.

A 28-year-old had been arrested after police were called to the city centre following the discovery.

Tait Street, off Botchergate, was cordoned off and residents were told to stay in their homes.

British Transport Police took a suspect, from Canterbury, into custody.

They confirmed today a man had been charged in connection with the incident, which happened at about 4.30pm on Friday.
