Man arrested after Cumbrian grandmother attacked on street

A man has been arrested after a woman was attacked while putting her young grand-daughter into a car.

The 58-year-old, from the Cockermouth area, was helping the 14-month-old into the vehicle when she was assaulted.

She was knocked forward into the car and then pulled out before being kicked in the head and back.

She suffered bruising to her body as a result of the unprovoked assault on Keir Hardie Avenue, Cleator Moor, at 8.20pm on Saturday.

A 26-year-old man from Cleator Moor has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and is helping the police with their enquiries.
