Man accused of having pistol and knife in Carlisle Tesco

A man has appeared in court accused of possessing an air pistol and a lock knife at a Tesco store in Carlisle.

Mark Lester, 49, of Aglionby Street, off the city’s Warwick Road, is charged with having them at the Rosehill branch of the supermarket.

Lester appeared before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court yesterday. He did not enter a plea to two charges. They were that he possessed a knife in a public place and that he possessed an air weapon in a public place, both on August 2.

He pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft, alleged to have been carried out on August 11.

The theft case was adjourned for a trial to be heard before the magistrates’ court.

The case covering the other two charges was adjourned to be continued at Carlisle Crown Court on January 6.

Lester was released on bail.
