Andrew Ramage, 31, of Seven Acres, Parton, near Whitehaven, denied two charges of sexually assaulting the teenager and inciting her to engage in sexual activity.

A jury at Carlisle Crown Court heard that Ramage had developed a relationship with the girl and regularly texted her.

The messages included the phrases “Soz about before I was out of order x”, “I wish I had you xx”, and “Can’t help it u r awesome”.

The girl told police that he had, while they were both fully clothed, spread her legs and pressed himself against her.

Prosecutor Tim Evans cross-examined a friend of Ramage, Carly White, 28, about the text messages.

She denied it changed her opinion of him and said: “He maybe didn’t mean it like that.

“He’s been one of my best friends for about seven years.

“He used to live with us and used to help my two children.

“I would have no concerns with Andrew Ramage being around my children.”

Ramage had told police that he “didn’t fancy her” and repeatedly said he did not assault her.

The trial continues.
