Lorry fire forces north Cumbria road closure

A lorry fire forced the closure of a main road in north Cumbria.

The A592 was closed between the Rheged roundabout and the Snuff Mill Cottage junction at Stainton.

The blaze was about 1.30am today but the vehicle was too hot to recover for some time, say police.

Some damage was also caused to the road surface.

Cars and vans were diverted through Stainton until the road reopened at around 10am.

Two fire engines from Penrith and one from Patterdale were sent to the incident, which involved a tank at the back of the vehicle.
