Olympic torch relay route revealed

The streets where the Olympic torch will travel in Allerdale, Copeland, Carlisle and Eden have been revealed.

Have your say

Stood on New Road to see the Beginning of the torch run into Whitehaven. The torch went by on the bus. There was a lot of disappointed people, who were wet and angry. New Road was listed in the local papers as one of the places to see the torch.

Talk about "cup half empty" comments! The ticketing system may have been shambolic but the torchbearing is completely fantastic. These Jonahs should read the achievements of these 'ordinary' people (torchbearers) - I don't know any of them but the opportunity to be involved is massive. Michael's comments have made me think though - the Council shouldn't have to waste our precious money cleaning streets - we should all pull together to discourage those who drop litter! I shall now go down to the Whitehaven route as early as I can with a bag and some gloves and pick up any rubbish I see. Community spirit - come on lads, get on board!

I have to agree with FR the Olympics has very little to do with any venue outside M25 with the possible execption of sailing. I probably not even bother watching on tv. If I could find a Olympic free zone I'd probably bug out for the duration.

Let us hope that the roads around the route for the torch relay have been cleaned, for a change, as the litter that surrounds the M6 junctions 42/43/44 are a disgrace, as are the routes on the West side of the city. The litter around Tesco is shocking, what an advert for our tourist industry when the local council cannot even keep the streets clean.

The tour of the torch is a vain attempt at promoting the M25 Olympics to the rest of the country to make us believe it really is worth all the billions spent on it. No-one who is visiting London to witness track and field, velodrome, pool events etc will be visiting Cumbria. They have no idea we exist...on a recent train journey down south another passenger asked me if Cumbria/The Lake District are near Cornwall and we hadn't even passed Manchester !! A recent Daily Telegraph poll (10 jan 2012) found that 73% thought "The benefits are inadequate considering the incredible expense and disruptions the Games have caused". The country has far more central locations for Wembley Stadium, The Olympics and the like...but London will always win. I'll enjoy the Games, but with a somewhat bitter aftertaste.

I think having the olympic torch running through our town is brilliant! its a part of history which has been tradtion at all the previous games, i cant see why people are complaining, if you are'nt bothered then dont go see, i know of people organising to make this special for when it runs through our town and it is taking a lot of hard work too, i'm organising with other ambassadors a day for primary school children to get into the olympic spirit! TORCH IN WHITEHAVEN IS BRILLIANT!!!
