A driver has been banned from the roads for nearly four years after doing more than 90mph at a roundabout on the A595.

Brady Warwick, 33, was spotted by police at 4am on the roundabout near to Orton Grange, heading towards Carlisle, city magistrates heard.

The officer was suspicious about the manner of his driving and followed his VW Golf, with his blue lights on.

The Golf was going at speeds of more than 90mph.

Warwick, who admitted drink-driving, went along Wigton Road to Westrigg Road, doing 60mph on the Morton estate.

The police patrol lost sight of his car and another police car saw it on Dunmail Drive, then parked in a cul-de-sac near Borrowdale Road.

When the officers arrived, Warwick was seen outside the car, leaning in through the window.

He was breathalysed and failed, before being taken to the police station where he had 68mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Warwick, of Albert Street, Longtown, also admitted failing to stop for police.

Malcolm Dodds, defending, told district judge Gerald Chalk that his client had a poor record.

He was disqualified in 1998 and 2005 both for drink-driving had not intended to drive on this occasion but “circumstances got the better of him”.

He had lost his job as a digger driver and was going to find life very difficult.

He was banned for 45 months and also fined £125 for drink-driving, £25 for failing to stop and ordered to pay £85 court costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
