Five youths who daubed obscene and racist graffiti inside a sea cadets building in Whitehaven are being hunted by police.

The group – all thought to be around 14 years old - were seen by a witness leaving the building in the town's harbour area at around 4.30pm yesterday, said a spokesman for Cumbria Police.

There were three boys and two girls.

One of the girls, who had blond hair, was bleeding from a cut to her arm.

The police spokesman said: β€œThe interior of the building was vandalised and covered in graffiti, some of it obscene and racist in its nature.”

The group also stole a knife with a wooden handle and a five-inch blade from inside the building.

Anybody who can help police as they investigate the burglary should call the force on 101 and ask to speak to PC2248, quoting the incident log 148 of April 22.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
