WORKINGTON Reds fans are set to show they are in a class of their own - as the club kicks-off its biggest game in years.

Hundreds are travelling to the home of Salford City today for a high-stakes showdown against a club famously taken over by the legendary Manchester United stars of the Class of '92.

This includes names as renowned as Gary Neville and Paul Scholes - but the travelling army of west Cumbrians are aiming to be the most formidable force at the Norther Premier League play-off final.

A supporters bus was due to leave Borough Park at 10am, with others driving down.

Reds booked their place in today's final by beating Blyth Spartans 4-3 at Croft Park on Tuesday night, with Rob Wilson bagging a dramatic winner.

Stewart Berwick, 61, of Frazer Street, Workington and Sean McMinn, 48, of Milburn Street will be among the travelling fans.

Stewart, a Reds fan since 1965, said: "It's up there with the some of the biggest games since they came into the non-league.

"I can remember them beating Harrogate in a play-off final and they played Wimbledon in the FA Cup.

"It's been a rollercoaster this season. We set off low key and then got some momentum, but we tailed off with injuries a couple of months ago.

"The Blyth match was one of the best nights. You couldn't have written the script.

"We were 3-1 up, then they pegged us back and then for us to win it in added on time was fantastic. Win, lose or draw it's been a great season."

Sean, a lifelong supporter, said: "Over the last 10 or 15 years we've had some real successes but we've had a couple of rough seasons in the Conference North.

"I thought the season was over before we beat Ashton and then we beat Blyth.

"I've experienced all the emotions this season with Blyth being a high point.

"The feeling I have supporting Reds is hard to explain - it's something else. Come on the Reds!"

Complete with his Reds hat and scarf, Danny Brough, 73, of Chaucer Road, Workington is also hoping to cheer them on at Moor Lane.

Danny, a fan for 63 years, said: "The first big game we had was against Manchester United, the original team before the Munich air crash, in 1956.

"Since then we've played Chelsea, Norwich, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest in the cup and got a promotion in 1964.

"It's a mega match for us considering we've got the lowest budget in the league."

Kick off at Moor Lane, Salford is at 3pm.
