A woman motorist was arrested today after an accident brought disruption to a key route into Carlisle.

Cumbria Police say that a 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after her red MG car collided with a Mitsubishi Animal near to the One Stop store on Newtown Road.

As a result of the initial collision, the Mitsubishi collided with a parked Vauxhall Astra.

None of those involved is believed to have been injured, said the police spokesman. Traffic flow is said to have been disruption but is now beginning to clear.

The damaged vehicles, which were partially blocking the road, have yet to be recovered from the scene.
