A walker plunged 300ft down a Cumbrian fell.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called to help the man, in his sixties, at about 3pm today.

The Great North Air Ambulance also responded, alongside the Coastguard Search and Rescue (SAR) and the North West Ambulance Service.

Once they had found the man, who was in the fells in the Great Gable area, the mountain rescuers and SAR winchman helped asses and treat him.

They were winched from the hillside by the Coastguard SAR and flown to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The man's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
