Two thieves have been jailed for stealing from shops in west Cumbria.

Sian Baker Douglas and Rebecca Williams, both from Siddick, targeted a number of stores in Workington in order to fund their drug habit.

The pair appeared before magistrates in the town yesterday. Douglas, of Senhouse Street, Siddick, was sentenced to 120 days in prison.

Williams, also of Senhouse Street, was out on a suspended licence, was given a 90-day sentence. The remaining nine months on her licence were also activated.

Temporary Sergeant Sean Prince said: "Cumbria Constabulary will continue to pro-actively work alongside stores to target and identify shoplifters through use of CCTV and the use of visible patrols to deter offenders who think they can steel from stores."

"Police also thank the shops for the vigilance and the reporting of the thefts."
