The family of a woman who died after a crash on the A66 near Warcop have paid tribute to the grandma who had a "heart of gold and lived for her family".

Rosemary Sharples, 68, died when her car was involved in a collision with another car and a goods vehicle on Sunday.

The family of Mrs Sharples, who lived in Sedbusk near Hawes, have released this statement: "We are at a total loss for words as to what has happened to our wonderful wife, mum, grandma, sister and auntie. She had a heart of gold and lived for her family.

"She was loved by everyone she met and had time for us all. Mum has left a huge hole in our lives that can never ever be replaced.

"We would all like to thank everyone for their kindness over the last couple of days it has meant the world to us and kept us going through the most difficult time.

"We would also like to thank the emergency services who cared for her in her final moments and the ongoing support we are receiving."

The collision happened at around 4pm on the A66 at Warcop. The driver of the second car involved in the crash was taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary in a stable condition.

An investigation into the cause of the crash was launched at the scene.

Police officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident who has yet to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101 quoting log 177 of the 25th June.
