Four teenagers arrested after the rape of a 15-year-old girl have been bailed while police continue to investigate.

Three 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, all from the local area, were arrested on suspicion of rape on Wednesday.

Yesterday, one of the 13-year-olds was released without charge.

Officers arrested a second 14-year-old from the local area yesterday and he was one of the four teenagers bailed overnight.

The four have been released on police bail until February 21.

Last night, police were given more time to question the boys initially arrested.

Detectives were granted a further 12 hours to keep the remaining three originally arrested in custody while the investigation continues.

It follows an incident in the Cloffocks area of Workington on Tuesday evening.

The offence is alleged to have occurred on a grassed area near the car park sometime between 7pm and 7.20pm.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident who has yet to come forward to call 101 quoting incident number 176 of January 3 2017 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
