A TEENAGER has been sent to custody for possessing a large knife in a Whitehaven park.
James Conway, 19, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today for a crime he committed in August last year.
He was seen to leave a homeless hostel and disappear into bushes, before emerging with the blade. Police were contacted by a concerned eyewitness.
Conway pleaded guilty to the possession of a bladed article and a charge of criminal damage. This followed an incident in a police cell after he was arrested.
Conway was given a six-month custodial term by Judge Peter Hughes QC.
Judge Hughes heard the teenager had committed similar offences during the same period of time.
