TWO men who snatched an iPhone from a teenager have been sentenced by a judge.

Connor Leslie, 18, and Matthew Burgess, 20, pocketed the handset after it was left unattended in Whitehaven on October 25 last year.

Carlisle Crown Court heard their victim, who has mild learning difficulties and autism, soon noticed it was missing. He reluctantly gave up his PIN after Leslie demanded: "Give me your passcode or I will bust your face."

Police later approached the pair and found the missing phone in Burgess' pocket.

Both pleaded guilty to theft, having also stolen a knife and a tobacco tin.

They were sentenced today by Judge Barbara Forrester, who said of the victim: "He is somebody who is disadvantaged by life and you took advantage of that."

Leslie, of Dalegarth Avenue, Harraby in Carlisle, was given a suspended prison sentence while Burgess, of Hallbank Road, Egremont, received a community order. Both must complete unpaid work.
