Talent scouts from ITV's The Voice UK are heading to Workington.

Would-be stars are invited to show off their singing skills at the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre on Tuesday, May 23.

The session, which was arranged today, will come the day after show staff check out the vocal skills of hopefuls at Ennerdale Brewery.

Karen Thompson, Carnegie manager, said a researcher from ITV told her the venue had been recommended.

She said: "I'm delighted they thought of us. We are obviously getting more and more on the map.

"Somebody told them if they wanted to get the good singers they needed to come to the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre.

"We're happy to help and because we know from years of working with local artists and musicians what a talented bunch we have got in West Cumbria.

"It would be good to get some of them some national exposure."

Auditions will be held from 12.30pm and slots must be booked by calling the Carnegie.

Hopefuls must prepare one song, either a cappella or with a backing track. Backing tracks must be supplied by the person auditioning and must be on an electronic device.

Karen said: "It's a brilliant thing for Workington, a great thing for the Carnegie but even better for those talented singers and musical artists out there, and we know we have got more than enough of those.

"We bat well above out weight in terms of talent."

A spokesman for the show said: "The Voice UK are currently on the hunt for talent for the 2018 series by visiting performance venues up and down the country.

"The Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre was earmarked for the calibre of the talent it attracts."

Audition slots must also be booked for the Ennerdale Brewery session, which runs from 6pm to 10pm on May 22.

Those wishing to take part should visit the Brewery Tap, at the brewery, to be issued with a wristband, which must be shown on arrival on the night.

There will be space for 60 singers to audition during that event.

West Cumbria’s very own singing sensation Jolan Gidney-Craigen shot to fame when he came runner-up in last year’s show.
