Strong windy weather has marred the final day of the hugely popular Keswick Mountain Festival.

Organisers have closed the Festival Village on Crow Park, opposite the Theatre By the Lake, and all of the planned open water swims have been cancelled.

A statement confirmed that all other sporting events, including the Junior Aquathon, will go ahead with adjustments to routes where necessary for safety reasons.

The statement added: "Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Meanwhile, the Met Office in London confirmed that the county has today seen unseasonably windy weather, with gusts of up to 60mph on high ground in the Lake District.

Forecaster Emma Salter said the strongest gusts today were felt on Great Dun Fell in the east of the county, though other parts of Cumbria have seen gusts of 30 to 45mph.

There are no reported problems from the intermittent heavy showers, but the winds are expected to ease tonight and tomorrow.
