Cycling legend Sir Bradley Wiggins will be competing in next month's Tour of Britain, organisers have confirmed.

The Tour de France winner and Olympic gold medalist will be competing in competition alongside his Team Wiggins colleagues.

Cumbria is set to host stage two of the tour on Monday, September 5, when the likes of Wiggins and Mark Cavendish will set off from Carlisle, go through the Lakes and head to the finish line in Kendal.

Joining him in Team Wiggins is Welshman Owain Doull, who rode alongside Wiggins in the Rio Olympics in the team pursuit event - helping Great Britain to gold.

Doull, also finished third overall in last year's Tour of Britain and won the Chain Reaction Cycles Points Jersey.

Tour of Britain race director Mick Bennett said: "We are delighted to be welcoming two of our Olympic champions to the Tour of Britain just three weeks after their success in Rio.

"As a former winner of the Tour of Britain it is always a pleasure to welcome Sir Bradley Wiggins back to Britain's biggest race, while Owain Doull was the star of the 2015 Tour, showing he has a very bright future ahead of him.”

The Team Wiggins trio join the likes of Andre Greipel and Steve Cummings, who have already been confirmed for the Tour of Britain, which begins in George Square, Glasgow, on Sunday, September 4.
