A prolific sex offender has been told he could face a life prison sentence after admitting a catalogue of child abuse.

Arthur Warwick, 58, was given the warning at Carlisle Crown Court as he admitted 29 charges.

Warwick pleaded guilty to five counts of rape and a string of other sexual offences, including 10 indecent assaults.

His crimes involve four different young victims, and some of them date back to the 1970s. Warwick also pleaded guilty to making 20 indecent photographs of a child between 2012 and 2016. Some of these are said to be classed in category A - the most serious.

Warwick, formerly of Roundthorn, near Penrith, was remanded in custody and is due to learn his fate at the crown court on December 9.

He was told by Judge Peter Davies - who will pass sentence - that prison was inevitable and that a life jail term could not be ruled out.
