Thugs broke a man's nose as they attacked and robbed him in Carlisle city centre.
The victim was also left with cuts to his head and extensive bruising. His phone, wallet and cash were stolen.
The man was attacked on West Walls, close to the Millenium Bridge, at about 6pm on Thursday.
He was followed by a man and woman before the man hit him several times and stole his possessions.
The attackers then left in the direction of the viaduct and town.
The male attacker was white, about 5ft 10ins tall, with fine blonde hair. The woman with him was smaller, with messy brown or black hair.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, asking for officer PC 1993.
