A woman taking part in a charity event had to be rescued after twisting her knee.

Keswick Mountain Rescue was called to assist the 31-year-old between Maiden Moor and Cat Bells on yesterday afternoon. She was unable to bear weight on her leg.

The team set off to Skelghyll and used an access track to get as far as Yewthwaite Mines.

Meanwhile a second truck went to the Hawse Gate side of the hill and team members reached the woman just less than an hour after they were called.

They splinted the woman's knee and gave her pain-relieving gas before taking her to the Land Rover.

She was then taken to Littletown Farm where she was passed on to a crew from the North West Ambulance Service and transferred to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The 15 members of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called just before 4.30pm and were at the scene for two hours and 32 minutes.
