REDS striker Scott Allison hopes that he can continue his purple patch and fire his side into the play-offs this afternoon against Buxton.

Promotion-chasing Reds will play in a game that could make or break their season and will determine whether they make the play-offs.

Derek Townsley’s side were thrown a lifeline on Thursday night when Frickley beat Stourbridge 2-1.

Had the Glassboys won it they would have secured their play-off place but three teams, including Reds, will now fight it out for two play-off spots.

Reds will make the play-offs if they win and either or both of Ashton or Stourbridge draw or lose.

Allison, who scored all four goals in the midweek 4-1 win over Matlock, said: “It was a strange one for me. It was one of those games where everything went right.

“I wouldn’t say I played better than I did in any other game I did this season and it was one of those games that you get now and again.

“It’s obviously a must-win game. We’re expecting a big crowd and I’m sure they will come down.

“We’ve got to do our bit and hopefully Ashton will slip up.

“We’ve had some disappointing results but we’ve given it our all. But if we come up short it will be disappointing.”

Retiring defender Kyle May will play his last match at Borough Park this afternoon.

Rob McCartney, James Earl, Phil McLuckie and skipper Gari Rowntree are all injured, but Anthony Wright is hoping to be fit.

Allison added: “It’ll be a bit like Matlock the other night and even Nantwich. They’ve not got a lot to play for and that can be a good and bad thing.

“Sometimes when you’ve got nothing to lose you do really well. If we get the first goal we should win and the first goal will be vital.

“A lot of my goals have been winning points but I’m not interested in scoring if we’re not winning and if we win I’m very happy.”

Kick off at Borough Park is 3pm.
