Buses will replace cancelled trains between Carlisle and Whitehaven tonight as other services are delayed.
Northern Rail has had to cancel two services due to staffing issues and alternative transport for passengers has been arranged.
The 7pm service from Carlisle, due in Whitehaven at 8.10pm, is cancelled, along with the 8.30pm service from Whitehaven to Carlisle.
On its website Northern said: "We are sorry for the cancellation of the service today.
"Rail replacement road transport will operate in lieu of these cancelled services between Carlisle and Whitehaven in both directions.
"We are very sorry for the delay this will cause to your journey."
Meanwhile rail passengers should expect to face delays between Carlisle and Lancaster after a speed restriction was imposed between Penrith and Oxenholme.
Virgin Trains and TransPennine Express are expected to be delayed by up to 30 minutes until midday tomorrow due to the restriction.
