Two men have been jailed for their part in supplying drugs in Carlisle.

Joshua Sibbett, 21, was chased by police officers in the Wigton Road area of the city on February 24 after residents raised the alarm about two men acting suspiciously.

While running away Sibbett, of Ruthella Street, was seen by officers throwing two packages in a garden.

"The packages from the garden were recovered and a further one from underneath him. His home address was also searched," said Clare Thomas, prosecuting.

Miss Thomas told Carlisle Crown Court yesterday that "wraps" were found containing benzocaine and a further four separate stashes of cocaine were also seized.

Fingerprints belonging to 24-year-old Ryan Patrick Nathan Park, of Marks Avenue, Raffles, were found on some of the packages. He was then arrested.

"A mobile phone was seized from him [Park] which showed drug dealing," Miss Thomas added.

The pair both admitted to possession of a class A drug with intent to supply.

Park was handed a three-and-a-half year sentence for his role while Sibbett was give a 27-month prison term by His Honour Judge Peter Hughes QC.

Park was handed a further two months to his sentence for separate theft charge and an extra four for committing the offences while under a suspended sentence for passing counterfeit money. It took his total prison term to four years.

The theft happened on July 11 when he stole car keys to Mini, a bank card and tobacco. He was caught by police driving the car.

Park's barrister Brian Williams told the court that July was the first time his cleat had been in custody and it had had a profound effect on him.

"He knows his liberty has been taken away," he said.

Mr Williams continued: "It has been an exceptionally difficult three months."

Judge Hughes responded: "I understand this is your first time in custody and you have found it hard, but I'm sorry it's not meant to be easy.
