A man has been warned he could face jail for committing a host of child porn crimes.

Neil James Maughan, 54, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today to face a host of charges.

Maughan admitted six counts of making an indecent photograph of a child and three offences of possessing an extreme pornographic image.

The charges relate to scores of images, both still and moving. A number are classed in category A - the most serious - with the ages of children ranging from seven to 14.

Judge Peter Davies adjourned the case, and asked for background information on the defendant.

Maughan, of Cumrew near Carlisle, is due to be sentenced next month and was remanded on unconditional bail.

But Judge Davies told him: "The fact that I am granting you bail is no indication as to the seriousness of your position.

"You must understand that all options, including custody, are open."
