Police will be in Workington this afternoon highlighting changes in the law on booster seats.
As of today, the law has changed, meaning that only children taller than 125cm and weighing more than 22kg can use a backless booster seat.
Previously children as small as 15kg could use one.
Officers will be in town between 2pm and 6pm to stop and speak to drivers and make them aware of the change.
PC Laura Stewart, who is leading the operation, said: "It is very important that parents fully understand the current laws regarding booster seats so that they don't fall foul of the law and, most importantly, they are able to keep their children as safe as possible.
"The operation will be a great opportunity for officers to make parents aware of the changes."
The law states that children must use a child car seat until they are 12 or reach 135cm (4ft 5in), whichever comes first.
Officers will be also conduct, where appropriate, breath tests, check tyres, and look for drivers on their mobile phones or not wearing seat belts.
Safety experts recommend that you use a child car seat for all children under 150cm (4ft 11in).
Children under three must be in a child car seat.
Anyone found breaking the law could face a £500 fine.
