A holiday maker visiting Carlisle for a wedding has been left with a fractured jaw after he was attacked in the city centre.

Police have now issued an urgent appeal for witnesses after the assault, which happened at 1am on September 18 in English Gate Plaza, Botchergate, as the victim was making his way back to his hotel, said a police spokesman.

"He was punched in the face," added the spokesman.

Two men – one aged 23 and the other a 20-year-old – were arrested on suspicion of an assault causing actual bodily harm. Both have been released on police bail as the investigation continues.

Anybody who can help the police investigation should contact Cumbria Police on 101 and ask for PC2341 Jenkins.
