UPDATE: M6 slip road at Penrith to be closed overnight for roadworks.
Police dealt with a serious two-wagon collision on the M6 this afternoon.
The incident happened at 1.45pm on the northbound slip road of junction 40, near Penrith.
The lanes heading west on the A66 were also reduced.
Emergency services were at the scene for several hours. Firefighters released one of the drivers from his wagon and passed him into the care of paramedics.
The extent of injuries is not known.
