A woman was forced to drink through a straw after being headbutted and injured by her niece outside a Carlisle pub.

Victim Fiona Oliver was left with a nasty "through-and-through" lip wound after she was the subject of an unprovoked assault on Botchergate.

Her attacker was a relative, 29-year-old Stacey Michelle McMillan, with whom she had been involved in an altercation moments earlier inside The Caledonian.

Carlisle Crown Court heard Ms Oliver needed hospital treatment and stitches following the April 25 incident and suffered a loss of confidence.

McMillan, of Burn Street, Longtown, was sentenced today having admitted an unlawful wounding charge. She confessed she had "lost it" outside the pub.

Recorder Kevin Grice imposed an eight-month prison sentence which was suspended for 18 months.

McMillan was ordered to complete 120 hours' unpaid work, a rehabilitation requirement and alcohol treatment sessions. She must also pay £400 compensation to her aunt.
