The latest addition to the Tesco-owned One Stop convenience store chain opens today.

The former Spar convenience store in Fusehill Street, Carlisle, has been closed for a week for a complete refurbishment to include One Stop branding.

One Stop has been wholly owned by Tesco since 2003 but is run as a separate business.

Many of the outlets are operated by franchisees.

David Forrester, whose family ran the Spar at Fusehill Street for 27 years, becomes the One Stop franchisee.

He said: “We’re all very excited about opening the doors of our new store. “With an increased product range, along with money-saving promotions, we’re certain that local shoppers will be delighted.”

The extended range includes fresh and chilled produce, an off-licence with of chilled beers and wines, and lunch and dinner meal deals.

Events are planned to promote the new-look store this weekend, including a children's face painter on Saturday, snacks, drinks and deals.

The store trades from 6.30am to 11pm Mondays to Saturdays and from 7am until 11pm on Sundays.

There are 770 One Stop stores throughout the UK, and this is the second in Carlisle. The first, in Newtown Road, was acquired from the north-east based Mills Group in 2010.
