Two men have been sentenced by a judge after stolen New Balance trainers were put up for sale on eBay.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how the shoes were listed on the website before they had even been released onto the open market.

An investigation revealed numerous pairs had been stolen from New Balance's UK headquarters at Flimby by 37-year-old Stuart Black - then a company employee.

Accomplice Ian Degraff, 44, was found to have access to an eBay account on which one pair of the M1500 trainers was advertised for sale.

Seven boxed pairs were later seized from his home.

The eBay listing boasted: "These are not even out yet so grab a bargain." Its guide price of £50 per pair was around £100 below the retail value.

Black and Degraff were sentenced today by Judge Tony Lancaster.

Black, of Goodman Road, Westfield, Workington, admitted stealing New Balance trainers between December 15, 2013 and January 9, 2014. He was given a six-month night-time curfew.

Degraff, of Windsor Road, Workington, received a three-month night-time curfew having pleaded guilty to a charge of handling stolen goods.
