A WORKINGTON man has been charged with murder following the death of a 29-year-old man in the town.

Cumbria Police arrested 22-year-old Calvin Patrickson, of Newlands Gardens, who has now been formally accused of the murder of Daniel McMullen, of Beech Court.

The Cumbrian force yesterday issued a tweet about their investigation of the tragedy.

It said: "Calvin Patrickson, 22, of Newlands Gardens,Workington, has been charged with the murder of Daniel McMullen. He will appear at court [today]."

Detectives launched a murder investigation in Workington following what was described as the "suspicious death" of a man.

Officers were called to Beech Court, off Coniston Drive, at about 7.30am on Saturday to reports of an injured man.

He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards by paramedics.

Patrickson is due to appear at Workington Magistrates' Court tomorrow. The case is likely to be sent straight to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing before a circuit judge.

Meanwhile, on the Facebook social media site people from across the Workington area have posted numerous tributes to Mr McMullen.

One message, from one of his childhood friends, states: “Absolutely heartbroken... [it's a] cruel world! RIP Daniel McMullen. Love ya buddy.” Other posts spoke of their shock at the tragedy and offered sympathy to Mr McMullen's family.
