Keswick Mountain Rescue Team helped a 59-year-old man who was overcome by heat while he and a friend were walking in Borrowdale.

The man became semi-conscious. As the casualty was a long way from the roadhead, and the diagnosis was for possible heatstroke, the team called in air support, with a helicopter being scrambled from Prestwick to help.

The drama unfolded in the Langstrath valley, at the foot of Strake Pass, just after 8pm on June 19.

Two team members ran the length of Langstrath to get to the scene to find that some helpful passers by had managed to get the man into the shade of their tent, and begun to rehydrate him.

Because he was unable to walk any distance, the helicopter continued to the scene, and airlifted him to rejoin his companion at Stonethwaite.

The team then stood down and returned to base.

There is currently no update on the man's medical condition.
