A motorist has admitted causing the death of a elderly pedestrian by careless driving in Penrith.
Peter Wilkinson, 23, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today where he pleaded guilty to one charge of driving without due care and attention, causing the death of pensioner Lawrence Cherry.
This relates to an incident in King Street, Penrith, on December 19, 2015.
Mr Cherry, who was aged 82, lived at Champion Way in Penrith.
At the time, police said he had been struck by a Volkswagen Golf at about 11pm. He was taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary, where he later died.
Wilkinson's barrister Greg Hoare told the court the defendant would be entering a "written basis" for his guilty plea.
The case was adjourned for presentencing reports.
Wilkinson, of Clifton, near Penrith, was granted bail but made subject to an interim driving ban.
He is due to be sentenced at the crown court on April 27.
