A motorcyclist has suffered "potentially life-altering" injuries after being involved in a crash with a Royal Mail van.
Emergency services are currently at the scene of the crash, off the B5305, near Unthank, north of Penrith.
It happened about 2pm.
A police spokesman said: "The motorcyclist has suffered serious, potentially life-altering injuries in the collision."
Inspector Jo Fawcett told the News & Star that the motorcyclist is a 54-year-old man from the Carlisle area.
The road is currently closed in both directions and officers are asking people to avoid the area if possible.
The North West Ambulance Service was also in attendance.
The motorcyclist has been airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance.
The van driver was uninjured.
