A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after crashing into a road sign on a notorious Cumbrian road.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Hartside Pass at about 10.40am on Sunday, following the incident.

The man, believed to be aged 30, was assessed for back and pelvis injuries before being taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

He was in a stable condition.

It was the second incident of the weekend for the air ambulance, which had been called to Brigham the previous day after a man fell from a roof.

Paramedics received the 999 call at 11.10am.

The man, thought to be in his 40s, was assessed and treated at the scene by the air ambulance crew.

His injuries were found to be less serious than first feared and he was taken to hospital by road ambulance.
