Warriors were put through their paces as one of Cumbria's most popular mud runs returned to Shap.

More than 6,500 people were enticed to the fell side to take on 30 punishing obstacles in Total Warrior at the weekend.

Besides Cumbria's tough terrain and some windy weather on Sunday, competitors were faced with Human BBQ, Claustrophobe, The Shocker and Hang Tough.

The event, which is now in its sixth year at Shap - and also takes place in Leeds and Edinburgh - attracts people from across the country and even from abroad, with over 35 nationalities signed up in 2015.

Craig Brighton was the first finisher on Sunday, completing the 10 mile course - which adds on a four miles fell run to the 10k route - in just 1hr 16 minutes.

He also won the 10k on Saturday in about 46 minutes and came first in the Total Warrior held in Leeds. He's going for a hattrick and is determined to top the leader board of the same event when it is held near Edinburgh in September.

The 34-year-old from St Helen's has taken part at Shap for the past four years.

"I love hills. It's amazing, the view. If you get chance to have a look when you're on that extra four miles its just worth it," he said.
