A woman who was reported missing from north Cumbria has been found.

Police confirmed that Serena Mason, 37, from Skinburness, was located at around 1.30pm today.

She had last been seen at her home address at 9.30pm yesterday.

A spokesman confirmed that she has been taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary, but could not say what injuries - if any - she has sustained or where she was found.

Police and Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team searched inland areas while coastguard teams from Maryport and Whitehaven searched coastal and marsh in the early hours of this morning.

At first light today, they were also joined by teams from Burgh-by-Sands and Silloth, both Workington lifeboats, Maryport Inshore Rescue and the coastguard rescue helicopter.

Posting on its Facebook page, Whitehaven HM Coastguard said: "The casualty was located and medical care was given by the Coastguard Paramedic from the helicopter and North West Ambulance Service.

"Shortly after the Great North Air Ambulance team arrived to assist with their advanced medical care. The casualty was then transferred to hospital by coastguard helicopter.

"A great multi-agency response showing the importance of team work to achieve a common goal."
