Police have confirmed the man who jumped off Eden Bridge last night has been found at an address in Carlisle.

The search in the river has now been stood down. It involved around eight police underwater, dog handlers, police search advisors, Penrith Mountain Rescue Team, the Coastguard and Cumbria Fire and Rescue and a police helicopter.

Police are currently speaking to the man and carrying out welfare checks.

The search started just before midnight after a report that a man had jumped into the river. It was called off during the night but resumed this morning.

A specialist team of police divers came from Liverpool to help in the major operation. Apart from police, fire crews and mountain rescuers, the search also involves a Coastguard dinghy from Kirkcudbright and the Nith inshore rescue team - each with five members - Annan Coastguard and Burgh by Sands Coastguard.

Police thanked everyone for their assistance in helping to locate the man.
