Police have named the 82-year-old man who died following a car crash last Sunday.
David Bennell's Toyota Avensis was involved in a collision with a VW Bora saloon on the A66 near Braithwaite.
Mr Bennell, of Braithwaite, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and died on Monday.
The 24-year-old driver of the VW Bora was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said there was no update on his condition this morning.
Police are appealing for witnesses that may have been in the Braithwaite area around the time of the collision who may have seen either vehicle involved in the incident.
